Youngblood, the second Divided Heaven full length, marks an arrival. What started as a solo project for Jeff Berman while studying in Europe ten years, tens of thousands of miles, and many sing-alongs ago has come to fruition, both for Berman and his loyal fans. This sophomore effort, produced by Charlie Stavish (Imagine Dragons, Ryan Adams) showcases a resounding progression in style and dynamic that introduces, for the first time, Divided Heaven as a full band.
Make no mistake; Berman and his guitar are still at the forefront and the songs are as honest as their singer. The title track, 'Gin', and 'Mass Ave' maintain the intimacy and thoughtful lyrics that one has come to expect in a DH song. Tracks such as 'The Worst', 'Safety-Pinned Heart' and the first single 'Melissa Militia' (produced by Stephen Egerton from ALL/Descendents) bring the new and exciting dynamic of the full band to life.
If Berman looks familiar its probably because you have seen him or heard him somewhere over the past 15 years. The rap sheet is impressive and varied and includes time with Protagonist, The Boils and VPR. On tour constantly Jeff pulls lyrical influence from the cities he has lived in: Lancaster, PA, Washington DC, Berlin, Brooklyn and his current home, Los Angeles.
The 2011 Paper and Plastick Records release of Divided Heaven's debut album, A Rival City yielded standout tracks that garnered regular play on internet radio as well as music videos for Five and Dime To Hollywood, KeyStone, and Born-Again Non-Believer which premiered on Alternative Press' website.
Divided Heaven and has crisscrossed the US and Europe on multiple tours, played on the Vans' Warped Tour and has shared the stage with such international artists as Anti-Flag, Less Than Jake, The Flatliners, Kris Roe, Joey Briggs, Sundowner, Into It. Over It, Red City Radio, Blacklist Royals, The Snips, Mark McCabe, and Sam Russo. Also noteworthy, Divided Heaven holds the distinction of being the only band to play Pouzza Fest, Punk Rock Bowling and the FEST in 2013.
It is most likely that Divided Heaven has played your town in the last two years and even more likely they will in the next two. Youngblood is out March 25th on Say-10 Records.
