Russell began his musical career at the age of 14 in Tulsa. He studied guitar with James Burton (Elvis Presley & Ricky Nelson). Known mostly as a session musician early in his career, playing with artists as varied as Jan & Dean, Gary Lewis, George Harrison, Gram Parsons, Delaney Bramlett, Ringo Starr, Doris Day, Elton John, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, The Ventures, Willie Nelson, Badfinger, Herb Alpert And The Tijuana Brass, Frank Sinatra, The Band, Bob Dylan, J.J. Cale, B.B. King,Dave Mason, Glen Campbell, Joe Cocker and The Rolling Stones. In 2010 Elton John/ Leon Russell "The Reunion" # 3 hit album was released. Saw Leon with Elton John. Have been a big fan of both for 40 years. Leon sounded like he did 35 years ago. Both were fantastic, what a treat to see the 2 best musicsians and piano players of all time. If you've never seen Leon do yourself a favor. You won't be sorry. You'll get a chance to see one of the few musicians who never sold out.
