Botnek is a Canadian electronic music duo founded in 2010. It is composed of Gordon Huntley and Erick Muise. They are known for their psychedelic, big room inspired musical style.
Gordon met Erick in 2009, during a friend's birthday party organised in Halifax, where he was trying to learn how to DJ properly. The duo then started getting in touch by chatting, sending tracks and giving producing advices to each others, and then created Botnek in 2010. Their first official release was a track called "If You Wanna", released on the label Big Fish Recordings on October 18.
The duo launched their official site, botnek.com, on November 2010. The site's first article was about a track called "Tik Tokka" published on December 22 as a free download, accompanied by three remixes. Three days later, the first instalment of their Botparty podcast was released. They then started remixing various artists like Crookers, Kissy Sell Out, Zeds Dead, Mikkas, AC Slater, Carli, Tocadisco, Clockwork, Jack Beats or Savage Skulls, while releasing tracks on various labels.
The band's first signed EP, Plonk, was released by Discobelle Records on September 5, 2011, and was followed by a second EP, Sriracha & Beer, released by Steve Aoki's label Dim Mak on November 20, 2012.
On April 8, 2014, Botnek released a collaboration made with their friend 3LAU, titled "Vikings". Justin has said that he and the duo wanted to challenge the banality and the generic side of big room house by making an original track.
