DeQn Sue emulates her musings in music after the famed jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie who poignantly said, "I dont care much about music. What I like is sounds. There will come a day when we as artists just make the music we love and wont define it by genre." Therefore, DeQns music dutifully expresses her inner workings in her stellar songwriting one idiosyncrasy at a time.
DeQns upbringing proved to be a group effort from both immediate and extended family. DeQn began singing at an early age. In fact, her first encounter with music happened with her father, singer and actor Rod Perry (S.W.A.T.). Thus, she discovered her favorite artists and musical influences in Chaka Khan, Blondie and David Bowie.
As she grew older, she eventually began to eat, sleep, and dream about music and officially realized her insatiable appetite for quality music. She then began to find her voice in songwriting and singing. Eventually, DeQns big city aspirations turned into realities. The same individuality her family helped cultivate in her at a young age came to life in her first recorded EP, Idiosyncratic.
The EP Idiosyncratic, released in 2012 and available on iTunes, vividly and sonically introduces listeners to DeQns quirks and charm, featuring songs that range from funk to pop. Songs such as Gross, in which she chronicles her encounters with everyday people doing gross things, The Watcher in which she sings about doing just that people watching and the hilarity that ensues, and Jelly Bean, cleverly parallels nay-sayers to her least favorite flavors of Jelly Beans.
DeQns inimitable songwriting continues to shine on her latest musical release, Zeitgeist. Due July 2014, Zeitgeist describes the culmination of DeQns experiences in life, both positive and negative. Lyrically, Zeitgeist is the introspective counterpart to Idiosyncratic, in that some of DeQns most personal work is showcased. Sonically, the lush and unpredictable production still exists. Standout singles on Zeitgeist include Dream Killer, a somewhat personal, yet relatable song about DeQns rise in music, and Magenta, which is a type of stream of conscious in which DeQn tries to associate her feelings to just one color.
Since releasing her music, DeQn has performed in some of the countrys most buzzed about music venues including but not limited to: The Roxy, The Mint, Genghis Cohen, the American Music Awards gifting suites and more.
DeQn Sue is steadily making a name for herself in music, with a strong team of supporters and fans alike. It wont be long before DeQn makes room for herself and all of her idiosyncrasies and has others embracing their own charming quirks.
