Van Goat (fka Bear Lincoln) met while while waiting in line for the bathroom at an AM/PM in Bakersfield. An altercation began when Aidan noticed that all four of them were wearing 'Los Machucambos' t-shirts. This started a conversation about music that has continued ever since. In fact, they are probably talking about music right now.
The highly-eclectic four-piece music has its origins in house parties and dive bars in the East Bay and beyond. Over the last two years, their sound has evolved into a tight mix of funk, klezmer, motown, surf, punk, soul, swing, rock and roll, and dance music.
Van Goat's latest release was recorded by keyboardist Ben Einstein in a dilapidated Victorian in Berkeley, CA. It encompasses the band's driving high energy eclectic soul/funk roots while showcasing earnest, tidy songwriting, musicianship, and catchy tunes. The boys brought in local bay-area musicians Kendra McKinley (Battlehooch Orchestra, Kendra McKinley), Greg Waters (Guy Fox), Jan Purat (Steep Ravine), as well as good friends Ari Cohen and Erik Anderson to add a exciting layers to these truly unique songs.
