SOFI TUKKER's debut song—Drinkee—is adapted from a poem written by the Brazilian poet, Chacal, sung sensually amidst cowbells, bongos, distorted electric guitars and deep driving bass. Between the raw vibe of the recording and the bouncy pulse, the genre lies at the intersection of deep house, bossa nova, and rock.
SOFI TUKKER is a duo that met at Brown University: Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern. Sophie grew up traveling and living around the world. Her wide-ranging influences stretch from bossa nova to West African drumming to Kundalini yoga chants. Tucker is a former collegiate basketball player whose influences range from deep house to rap to folk music.
Upon graduating, Sophie and Tucker moved to New York City to work out of Heavy Roc Music Studios in Chinatown. Their debut EP showcases the unlikely combination of their influences and their passion for dance and feminine ferocity.
