SF9 (Korean: 에스에프나인; shortened from Sensational Feeling 9) is a South Korean boy group formed by FNC Entertainment. SF9 is the company's first dance boy group to ever debut. SF9 debuted on October 5, 2016 with the release of their first single album Feeling Sensation.
Pre-debut & NEOZ School
The group first performed in Japan on December 11, 2015. The group had consisted of 11 members at that time. In May 2016, they participated as NEOZ Dance in FNC Entertainment's survival show d.o.b (Dance or Band), competing against NEOZ Band (later known as Honeyst). They later won the show with their first song "K.O," which was later featured on the Feeling Sensation single album. They were renamed SF9 in August.
2016: Debut with Feeling Sensation
SF9's debut single album Feeling Sensation with lead single "Fanfare" was released on October 5, 2016. The album debut at 8th place and peaked at 6th place on Gaon Album Chart. They made their official stage debut on October 6, 2016 on M! Countdown."Fanfare MV" rank #6 on Yin Yue Tai weekly chart and rank #7 on Yin Yue Tai Monthly Chart.Their promotion for "Fanfare" ended on November 6, 2016 on Inkigayo. The group then started the promotion of their second song of the album, "K.O." on November 15, 2016. The debut single album "Feeling Sensation" was ranked 78th for its album sales in 2016.
On November 20, 2016, they had their first official fan meeting through 2016 SF9 Surprise Festival 9 Part. 4 since debut. All of the fan meeting tickets sold out within 30 seconds on November 11.
On December 24,12:00 a.m KST. They released a music video as a gift to their fans with the title "So Beautiful." The song was originally an OST of their interactive web-drama "Click Your Heart." "So Beautiful" is a digital released single. It ranked #11 on Yin Yue Tai Chart.
2017–present: Burning Sensation, Japan debut and Breaking Sensation, Knight of the Sun
On January 12, SF9 announced their fanclub name "Fantasy," during the celebration for their 100th debut day anniversary on Naver V app. The meaning behind the name is that fantasies are the fulfillment of one's hopes in your imagination, and that SF9's fans will be part of the fulfillment of their hopes. And in turn, SF9 will be part of a beautiful fantasy for fans. It adds that they hope that all the happy moments that SF9 and fans share together will never be forgotten. The word "Fantasy" also stands for "Future : Accompany : Next : Together : Affect : SF9 : You."
Their first mini album Burning Sensation was released on February 6. It landed at #6 on Billboard World Albums Chart which was released on February 15 KST and rank #1 on Yin Yue Tai MV Chart after it was released.
On February 24, recruitment for 1st "Fantasy" was official announced.
SF9 held their fan meeting "Burning Fantasy" on March 25, 2017 where they met with 600 fans, which marked the end of their "ROAR" promotion.
On April 4, it was reported that SF9 would have their 2nd comeback, just two months after the concluded "ROAR" promotions. On April 5, FNC released a teaser photo containing binary code with the SF9 logo underneath, and on April 6, FNC announced the schedules for their comeback on April 18, with their 2nd mini album "Breaking Sensation."
On April 7, SF9 held their first Japan Debut Showcase with 1,300 fans in attendance.
On April 18, SF9 released their new six-song EP, titled Breaking Sensation, which includes the title track "쉽다 (Easy Love.)" On the same day, "쉽다 (Easy Love)" made it to the #1 rank on the U.S. iTunes K-Pop Singles Chart and the album rank #2 on U.S. K-Pop Album Chart. They also placed in the top five of iTunes K-pop Charts in the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Canada, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Ireland, Romania, Turkey, Sweden, Indonesia, and Norway and rank #3 on Chinese Kogou Chart. On April 25, Breaking Sensation (EP) landed #5 on the Billboard World Album Chart.
On June 6, SF9 debuted in Japan. On June 7, the Japanese version of their debut single "Fanfare" was released. It ranked #1 on Tower Records Chart for Single Albums and #4 on Oricon Chart.
On September 20, FNC posted a picture that is related to SF9 which caused to speculate a comeback for SF9. On September 22, FNC confirmed that SF9 will have their 3rd comeback. FNC Entertainment confirmed, "SF9 traveled to California in late August and concluded filming for their music video. Their comeback is being planned for October."
