Indigenous Biography

His name is Mato Nanji. His band is Indigenous.

As a proud member of the Nakota Nation, Mato Nanji (Nakota for Standing Bear - pronounced Ma-TOE NON-gee) is indigenous in every sense of the word. But don't expect to hear his music in some New Age shop. Instead, prepare yourself for guitar work that channels Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Carlos Santana (to name a few) with powerful vocals all wrapped into Nanji's own blues-rock sound. Although, he insists, his music shouldn't be defined solely by his race and culture. "I would like to think of what I do as good music. I wouldn't put a label on it. Doing that restricts a lot of artists because it categorizes you. Good music is good music, which is something I learned from my father".
