Midland is an American country music group consisting of Mark Wystrach (lead vocals), Cameron Duddy (bass guitar, background vocals), and Jess Carson (lead guitar, background vocals). The group has charted in the top 40 of Country Airplay with its debut single "Drinkin' Problem".
The band was founded in Hays County, Texas and named after the Dwight Yoakam song "Fair to Midland". Billboard describes the band's sound as "a definite George Strait '80s New Traditionalist feel to it, combined with the rich California harmonies that made The Eagles legendary." Mark Wystrach is the lead singer, while Cameron Duddy plays bass guitar and Jess Carson plays lead guitar.
The trio has signed to Big Machine Records and has released a five-song extended play. It features the debut single "Drinkin' Problem", which has charted on Country Airplay. The band wrote the song with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. The song was also made into a music video, directed by Duddy. Duddy had previously won an MTV Video Music Award for directing the video for "Locked Out of Heaven" by Bruno Mars.
Taste of Country reviewed the song with favor, saying that "The trio's 'Drinkin' Problem' keeps the pretty of old-school country swing but dives dark into sorrow with no shame".
