Local music might just change the world, and Baltimore's young Parallel Heights is on a mission. With a growing arsenal of original songs and crowd-pleasing covers, this indie pop three-piece brings an inspiring energy to their work both in the studio and on the stage. Having been asked to play at some of the best spots in town, including Rams Head Live and Baltimore Soundstage, and having showcased their musicianship to multiple crowds of over 500, the band has grown fast in their ability to put on an unforgettable performance in any venue. They recently, independently released their first EP and are continuing to work on new material while playing shows throughout the greater Baltimore area.
Multi-instrumentalists Andrew Franklin and Adam Green began playing together at open mics and collaborating on songwriting projects in 2014, but it wasn't until they teamed up with powerhouse vocalist Karalisa Grant the next year that Parallel Heights was born. The new trio set their sights on creating a music project that was simultaneously accessible, musically adventurous, fun, and honest. In autumn of 2015, they chose to record with a few of the most skilled producers in the area and financed the endeavor by running a successful Kickstarter campaign that brought in three times their target funding. The result was a diverse, yet delightfully cohesive collection of five original songs. The band's Forest Fires EP was released on January 8, 2016 and can be heard in its entirety on their website (www.parallelheights.com).
Kim Allegrezza (AXS) ascribed Parallel Heights to "the next generation of Baltimore bands [who] are hungry to make it and have a fire in their belly fueling them forward." Their recipe contains rich layers of unique ear candy formed by creative instrumentation and stacks of vocals, surrounded by a core of clever and earnest songwriting and cranked to 11 by frontwoman Karalisa's extraordinary voice. Never limiting themselves to the standard pallet of rock music instruments, the band has employed saxophone, trumpet, orchestral strings, ukulele, and even bagpipes in their music. All of these factors come together to create a unique and refreshing experience in today's music scene. Parallel Heights is on a mission to take their sound to unparalleled new heights while showcasing their vivacity and creativity throughout the world!
