STIMULI is an Oakland, California rock band formed by guitarist Jimmy Tomahawk, vocalist Kris Nova, drummer Cole Andrew and bassist Tai Hake.
Shortly after formation in 2013, STIMULI entered the legendary Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California to begin tracking their debut EP. Released in 2014, the debut effort of all original material exemplifies the breadth and depth of the band's affinity for the hard rock method of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, the seething grunge of Soundgarden and Alice in Chains and the complex progressive rock of King Crimson and Rush. The sum of these varying influences often results in comparisons of STIMULI to contemporary prog-rock torch bearers such as Porcupine Tree, Tool and Karnivool.
Vocalist Kris Nova's writing is steeped in classic themes of love, loss, and introspection. Nova's existential voice is a clarion call detailing California's diverse and eccentric Bay Area culture. This voice is seamlessly woven into the complex musical tapestry spun by guitarist Jimmy Tomahawk's angular riffing, drummer Cole Andrew's tribal syncopation and bassist Tai Hake's snarling tones.
STIMULI's music is ambitious enough to push musical boundaries in the spirit of the "Progressive", unusual enough to be an "Alternative" while dense and edgy enough to be filed under "Hard Rock" categorization.
The band have recently produced and released a video for the track 'Changes Come' from the debut release. Meanwhile, STIMULI have been consistently performing live in support of the debut EP and are currently preparing to enter the studio to begin tracking the full length follow up album due in 2016.
