Formation and Goblin Island (2006-2010)
Nekrogoblikon started as a summer side project between Tim Lyakhovetskiy and Scorpion, in 2006. Lyakhovetskiy and Scorpion recorded the album Goblin Island on their own in Tim's garage in Palo Alto. When Lyakhovetskiy returned to UCSB after summer, he set out to turn Nekrogoblikon into a live band. He eventually recruited Alex Duddy and Ashleigh Carracino to cover vocal and keyboard parts, respectively, and soon after enlisted the help of Spencer Bartz, Alex Alereza, and Austin Nickel for drums, second guitar, and bass. After playing eleven shows with the band, including numerous shows playing the "Headbang for the Highway" Battle of the Bands competition at the "Whisky a Go Go" in Hollywood, Spencer moved to Japan. Eddie Trager, a friend and former bandmate of Alex and Austin, replaced Spencer on drums in September 2007. The band has undergone some member changes throughout the years, as members have graduated educational institutes or moved on to other bands or musical endeavors.
On July 19, 2011 the band released STENCH, a 12 track album. In September 2012 the band released a music video for "No One Survives", which was directed by Brandon Dermer. This video became a viral hit and was viewed more than 1.5 million times in the first 3 months. In June 2013, Nekrogoblikon performed at Download Festival in the UK, and other festivals throughout Europe (Rock Am Ring, Rock Im Park, etc.) In 2012, Aaron Minich replaced Beepus on keyboards.
The band released their EP entitled Power on August 27, 2013. Kerrang! Magazine gave Power 5/5 Stars and Kerrang! Magazine (UK) inserted a poster of "John Goblikon" in the August 2013 issue. power was produced by Nekrogoblikon, and mixed by Matt Hyde (Deftones, Children of Bodom).
In 2014, Nerkrogonlikon took part on the 2014 Kerrang Tour with Crossfaith, Baby Godzilla and headliners Limp Bizkit
Foundation and name
The band's name stems from their main subject - goblins - and the notorious Necronomicon featured in H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. Their subject matter is generally dark, showing influences of Children of Bodom, Finntroll, and 3 Inches of Blood.
