Stephanie Harwood began singing and performing when she was old enough to talk. Out of high school she tried her luck in New York, performing in piano bars and cabarets. A show that she co-wrote, directed, and starred in won a Backstage Bistro Award for "Outstanding Achievement in a Musical Review." She moved back to the Bay Area in 2005 and was cast in Beach Blanket Babylon in San Francisco. Since '05 Stephanie has performed the National Anthem at several Giants games and sang with the San Francisco Symphony at Davies Symphony Hall and the Shoreline. After all of those wonderful opportunities, Stephanie wanted to be apart of the creative process...And so began the genesis of Swoon ...
Julian is rooted in rock, with branches in most everything else. A self taught bass/guitar player, and a multifaceted songwriter, Julian has been the locomotive for a range of collaborations over the last 12 years. Using strained intervals and unconventional timing in combination with pop sensibilities to make the jagged and sour palatable, he strives to make familiar music you've never heard before.
Kater (k8r) comes from a folk music background and is a multifaceted musician with an innate sense of feel. For the past 8 years, he has played cello and mandolin in many bay area bands of different styles ranging from eastern music to hip hop. With the ability to switch between these two instruments, Kater creates emotional soundscapes with timbres that lift the spirit, shake your soul, and move your heart. Kater's deep textures and ear for melodies bring a symphonic feel to Swoon's music. In his spare time he works as an experimental quantum physicist at UC Berkeley.
Todd is a student of drumming for over 20 years. He has studied and performed music from a myriad of musical traditions. Originally from Philadelphia (actually South Jersey but he thinks Philly makes him sound tough), he moved to bay area in 1999. Known in the Bay Area hip-hop underground as Cozy T, he combines Philly Soul with Oakland Funk creating unique rhythms that make your body move. Todd's unique groove and tribal beats soothe the soul and provide the heartbeat for Swoon.
Joey's love affair with the guitar began at the age of 18, when his sister passed down her banged up Fender Stratocaster. He spent years bouncing back and forth between heavy rock riffs and acoustic finger picking, searching for the joy hidden between the notes (and finding it, no less). Finding inspiration across all genres, he developed a style that allows him to blend seamlessly with the rest of the Swoon players, acting as the glue that brings their disparate influences together into a whole. When not Swooning, he can be found rocking out with Full on Flyhead.
Scott has been musician since the age of 6, He has played piano, trombone, banjo, guitar, drums and most recently bass for the past 4 years. A huge fan of jazz, he combines rock essentials with jazz grooves to bring a sweet style to the group. Scott's fretless bass is smooth and his groove is solid, perfectly combining with Todd to make a dynamic duo of a rhythm section. He is currently studying at UC Davis.
