The CAPITOL high-rise building was built in the 1920s and is now a well-known hallmark of the city of Hanover. The listed brick building is located on the Ihme, in the heart of Hanover.
The idea of setting up a multifunctional event location in Hanover was managed by CAPITOL operator Michael Lohmann together with Wolfgang Besemer († 2014) in 1985. The ideal location was soon found with the former film theater at Schwarzen Bär 2 to realize this concept.
After a reconstruction the CAPITOL was opened on 20 September 1986 and from then on became a popular venue for live music, cinema and disco.
Since then, national stars such as Westernhagen, Xavier Naidoo and Die Ärzte, as well as world-class artists such as Joan Baez, The Kinks, Gary Moore and Robbie Williams, have been among the many stars who have given CAPITOL memorable concertgoers and their reputation as a live club Beyond the boundaries of the city.
In addition to the concerts, there are the party and disco parties, theatrical and comedy events, readings and corporate events, which characterize the CAPITOL program. The CAPITOL offers space for events with 400 to 1600 guests and captivates by its unique charm and an intimate atmosphere, in which visitors and artists are well cared for.
